AWG Meeting - Exercise

It's been so long since we've done a writing exercise, we thought we'd break out the pads and pens.

We're going to play "Beginning - Middle - End," so come prepared to write.

AWG Member: "Klein, what's that? I've never played before."

Klein: "You'll find out."

If I'm attending Ruth, I can swing by and pick you up. You're so close.

Oh, thanks, Sue. That would be great.

That meeting was fun! What a fine and flexible group of writers you are. Let's do something like that again soon.

I would have joined you at Pete's for the afterwards get-together, but I have real trouble driving home in the dark. Maybe when the longer daylight hours set in, I'll be able to hang out with you.

    I agree with George.
    Great writing in short time.
I have, for the second time, experienced that my writing and desire to write increases and I produce pieces when i am with AWG group.
So, i need to be around some of you at least to write fast and well :)

Sorry I didn't make it, something came up at the last minute. If you're on the wait list though, just come.

Lots of fun but instructive as well. It is amazing what people came up with given the time and subject restrictions. Hooray for the poets and comedy writers and the brave readers for translating other scribes scrawl. Here's a possible twist for the next time we do it: Divide the group into four teams, give each team the same prompt, let the teams brainstorm ideas for 15 minutes, then elect a writer(s) to do 500 well chosen words on the topic--any format (fiction/poetry/drama/memoir, etc) Team edits the final draft. Organizers to judge the best offering or by group acclamation.

Last minute, won't be able to join in this tonight! So very sorry. New mom and day care fell through. Hope to join in the next session! Please take my spot if anyone else can make it.

Please let the moderator know if you can't make it. Take pity on the waitlisters who wannabee there.

I would add "also update your RSVP in the system." It'll move the next waitlister into the Yes category, and send them an email that they've been bumped up (nice if you can't check your status on the site).

I just moved George, Co-co, and Meg in. I'm out (soccer, sorry.) David and Joanna have The Con.

I actually removed myself earlier, not able to make it. So a spot for someone else. Don't know how that works but did email Michael as well.

I do not want to take a chance on having to cancel at the last minute so I am going to give my slot to someone else. Have fun!

What are the pieces to be critiqued on 4/9?

Yes, you will. Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha, or in French

May we come with an idea in mind?

    March 28, 2014

    • Michael K.

You can. But it may not help.

  • Ruth K.

Sounds like great fun to me!

I've been MIA. Magazine writing at the expense of my novel. Looking forward to getting back to it.

  • Frank H.

I have not written a word in a few years but excited about the inspiration and energy of many aspiring or current writers in one room. I hope to learn a lot.

    March 27, 2014

    • Michael K.

This will be a great session to get your creative juices flowing, Frank! Welcome.

      March 28, 2014

  • Jaqueline

Hi. I've never been to a meeting and haven't started writing anything at all. Is it okay that I attend this meeting to get a feel for the group?

    March 21, 2014

    • Michael K.

Absolutely, Jaqueline. Come to some meetings and participate at whatever level you are comfortable with. The critiques on 3/26 and 4/9 have works listed that you can read and mark up.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
