Algonquin Books Editor Chuck Adams Talk

On Tuesday July 15 at 7:00pm at the Eva Perry Regional Library, Algonquin Books Executive Editor Chuck Adams will speak with Write to Publish organizer Stacey Cochran in a Q&A session on the topic of book publishing. This event is free to attend, and newcomers are welcome.

We'll ask Chuck how writers can best avoid the dreaded "No" of rejection, what he looks for in a manuscript, whether writers need a literary agent or not and how best to find and work with one, what an editor does and how best to work with one, what his experience was like working on the enormously successful Water for Elephants, the future of publishing, ebooks, literary and genre fiction, non-fiction, the history of Algonquin and its mission, book marketing, and the ingredients of our best-loved stories.

So totally bummed that I had to miss the event but since I was totally soaked from the getting caught in the storm, thought a pass was in order. Looks like the same event is at Cameron Village on the 26th??

Stacey: I started out only to run into sheets of rain which slowed me down and when I arrived in Apex I could not find the address. I am so sorry as I did want to hear Chuck speak and to see you again. Next time hopefully. pcondon

Chuck Adam's easy-going manner, refreshing honesty and openness, and friendly approach to writers was a delight. I came away with lots of excellent suggestions and intriguing perspectives. Thanks to Stacey for organizing and to Chuck for participating.

Hi, I went to meet Sheena (my ride) and am glad we got to meet. But at 5:30 the sky was dark at Crabtree Valley. So I opted not to go to Apex. Keep us posted. I know that whoever went will have a wonderful, intimate evening.

Hi, I am planning to come, but I will have to leave at 8 unless someone is driving from NW Raleigh (intersection of Glenwood Ave. and Duraleigh Road, 27612) and would like to give me a ride. I have poor night vision. In any case, though, I plan to make it. What a wonderful event. Thanks for setting it up.
