The Durham Writer's Group (DWG) on Meetup has been holding a free quarterly short story contest for over a year now. In the past it has only been open to members of the DWG. This will now be open to the Raleigh Write to Publish Group (RW2P) too. You have to be a member of one of these two groups in order to enter, which means that you only have around 1700 people who are eligible to win.
The next contest period starts on June 1. The topic will be announced soon.
- The contest information is on a non-Meetup website: http://durhamwritersgroup.wordpress.com/. Everything related to the contests can be found there. I have also added the link to the contest information in the Pages section of the RW2P Meetup site (access by menu bar at top). It is called "DWG Short Story Contests".
- The winner's stories are shared on the site and protected from the general public. Each winning story will be converted to a PDF and password protected before it it posted to the DWG Contest site. The password to open and view the winning stories is: "writer@DWG!" This is cumbersome but I felt it prudent to protect the authors' work as much as possible, even though they are already protected by copyright.
- Also, I like to give custom titles to the contest winners each period (these will show up by your name on the RW2P Meetup site. Only the most recent contest winners will have a custom title. Previous related custom titles will be cleared.
I hope you are inspired to submit a story in an upcoming contest. Feel free to leave any comments on the Comments page on the new site. Thank you.
