discuss how GTA artists can network & find spaces to show art that are LOW cost

While creating visual arts has it's own challenges, what happens when artists have spent the time and money to get to that point and then find there are few affordable places to show work to the public? There are expensive, crowded shows with high fees, and vanity galleries where you pay to show your work, but there should be more opportunities.
Let's discuss a variety of ways that we can team up to exhibit art and perhaps also involve other artists (musicians for example)

Yes Shirley, I too would like to see more artists pulling together and understanding that there is a great deal of public money paid by taxpayers, who support and want to see art in public spaces. We artists need to help ensure these funds are directed toward this.

MAP CLARIFICATION: Yes, Betty, you're right, the pointer shows it on the wrong side of the street. Once you exit the subway, you must cross the street which you can do underground or by going upstairs. Second Cup is in the building on the west side, next to Mel Lastman square, on the upper floor food court.

Sorry, Kathryn..I find the map misleading..Can you be more specific about the location? Thanks

The date and time are set to discuss space for GTA artists. As long as enough people are re- confirmed by June 11 that they can attend the June 14 date (post a notification in this area) then we will go ahead. The location is right on the subway line.

I have been in touch with a number of Arts administrators and other city officials about this issue and look forward to your input to make our ideas known. Also a great chance to network with other creative people!

I am also awaiting the "Making Space" report being done by the city to have something official and recent to report on spaces available for the Arts.

  • Kathryn

We will need a few more people to make this worthwhile. Perhaps when the date is announced (thinking a Wed. or Thurs. evening in January) we can gather some more artists together.
