(This is not really a meetup as such, but it seems like a good place to talk about it)
I was asked some time ago to do a book reading/discussion at the FCCJ on May 21, to talk about my thriller "At the Sharpe End". The other day, I received a message from them saying that fiction apparently doesn't pull in the crowds, and they were regretfully having to cancel the event.
However, they added that if I could be sure of getting 15 people along, they would consider putting it back on the calendar.
I'm not looking for a definite commitment at the moment, but if anyone is interested in attending (provisionally at this stage), please say so.
I know that it is early days, but it would be nice to know if there are at least 15 people who would be interested in coming along and discussing the writing of a thriller set in Tokyo, and the problems of changing a story to take account of events that did happen (the Wall Street Crash) and removing events that hadn't happened at the time the story was originally written (earthquake and nuclear disaster). Admission will be ¥2,000 per person (I think it includes a drink, but I am not sure).
Anyone who wants to put themselves down as a "definite maybe" at this stage is more than welcome to do so. I'll be rounding up the "maybes" nearer the time in a desperate attempt to convert them into "Yes".
Can I add Christopher and Romi to the list of those attending? I have to present numbers to the fccj on Friday 17th?

I said Yes in the RSVP, but I'm actually a definite maybe. It sounds very interesting, but if you could tell me more about the content of the reading and discussion I'd appreciate it. Also, what does the 2000 yen charge support? Is this going to pay the venue, are there snacks or drinks included, etc. Also, what do you expect of the participants? Should we have read your book from cover to cover?
Thanks for taking time to answer these questions. I've never been to one of these events before.
