Daytime Critique

For writers in the Triangle who have flexibility with their weekday schedules, this critique group is for you!

The Daytime Critique is experiencing several no-shows.

The Daytime Critique is open to a maximum of 4 writers, including myself. Short fiction, romance, YA, memoir, all genres are game! Submissions are capped at 3,000 words and are due 1 week in advance. First drafts are okay.

Regular attendance is NOT required.

Things to know:

• RSVPs close 10 days before the critique.

• You will receive instructions on where to send your submission and will have 48 hours to submit.

• If you do not send a file, you will not participate.

Depending on response, I plan to hold this critique group on the first Monday of every month.

Hi Tara Lynne and others. I like the size and focus of this group, but Mondays don't work for me. I'll be on the alert to see if you get a group together on a different morning.

That's too bad, Susan! If you'd like to spearhead an alternate day during the week, send me a direct message and I'm happy to add it to the calendar.

Neither mad dogs nor Englishmen could keep me away. Do you know what my last submission was or the date of the meeting I attended?

    March 21

    • Tara L.

I don't remember the date, but I remember it was the first part of a three-part collection.

Tara, I am also in two other groups, but I like your meeting time and the location is about 5-10 minutes from my house. I am working on a realistic science fiction novel, but have other projects in mind as well.

I am a member of several other writers groups in the area. I'd like to attend and see if there is a fit between me and the group. I'll submit something for review once I have details.

I have written two screenplays, a TV pilot and I've almost finished with 200 page novel. I want to learn about making connections in the publishing area. Is this a good group for this purpose?

    • Tara L.

Hi Marvin! No, this is a critique group. We don't discuss publishing here. We read each writers' work in advance and spend the time dedicated to providing constructive criticism.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
