We meet Sunday afternoons every other week, alternatively in the Fremont and Capitol Hill neighborhoods, to share food and drink and chat about writing, publications, readings, and other projects on our plates.
Note that we're not using Meetup to schedule these meetings, so if you'd like to be added to the invite, please sign up for the group and/or shoot me an e-mail.
Also please note that this is not a critique group. The purpose of the group is to allow people who want to meet and make friends with other writers the opportunity to do so without having to share or respond to work. Of course, there's absolutely nothing wrong with critique groups; it's just not the purpose of these meetings. This arrangement simply provides another avenue for making contacts and friends that's more inclusive of everyone's needs and interests. People do branch off and create critique groups....they also collaborate on books, magazines, performances, and other artistic and social projects (we've been hiking a lot lately). So if you want to form a critique group, come to the gathering and see if anyone's interested.
Upwards of 80 people have attended in the last two years, about 6-12 per gathering on average (we've had as many as 25 show up, but that's unusual). Experience levels run the gamut: many have never shared their work publicly; others have extensive journal and book publications. We also have novelists, screenwriters, playwrights, translators, film-makers, painters, and other artistic types who simply enjoy the company. Everyone's welcome, poets and non-poets alike. Bring your spouse. Bring your best friend. Hell, bring your therapist.
