TYPICAL EVENING PROGRAM
7 – 7:30pm Table Talk
7:30 - 8:30pm Discussion, speaker or panel
8:30 – 8:50pm Q&A
8:50 - 9pm Talk To Us
• Each evening begins with “Table Talk” with tables organized by age groups allowing attendees to meet and network among themselves. This is a valued part of the evening; info is shared along with those uplifting success stories we all like to hear!
• Each meeting then has a group discussion, a guest speaker or a panel.
• We end the evening with “Talk To Us” in which attendees are asked for their input as to how OCASG can help them in the future. This helps us plan the 2012 line-up as well as other programs.
• Topics are selected for their relevance to high-functioning individuals and their families.
The Orange County Asperger's Support Group is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides support, education, parent advocacy and adult self-advocacy for those dealing with Asperger's Syndrome, High-Functioning Autism (HFA) and PDD-NOS.
This support group is a community of Asperger's adults and families living in Orange County (and surrounding counties). We were founded in October 2003.
Our Mission:
We provide hope and support for people with Asperger’s, High-Functioning Autism and PDD-NOS and their families through meetings, online communities, social events, skills training, education and advocacy. We are committed to improving communication, understanding and acceptance between the Asperger's and neurologically typical populations, and to ultimately improving the quality of life for all.
We currently have monthly support meetings in Newport Beach [3rd Monday of the month] and North County [4th Monday]. The theme for 2011 is "A Life with Asperger's." Monthly support meeting topics will range from childhood issues like school IEPs to adult issues like jobs and careers.
Informal socialization among children is encouraged. Games and puzzles are always available. Children must be able to sit with other children during the meeting in a separate section from their parents. If you have a special circumstance, please discuss it with our moderators prior to coming to the meeting.
We have age-specific activities for all ages -- helping kid, teen and adult Aspies with community integration and social skills. We invite all Aspies to join our movie, Anime and bowling groups. Please see our calendar and files section for more information on specific meetings and activities.
