Calling All Dames!!! Trail Dames is a hiking club for women of a curvy nature! However, all women are welcome! The Dames are a group of women who are looking for a chance to get out and see the beauty that this world has to offer. We hike relatively slowly, enjoying every second, because we know that it is not the destination that is important, but the journey. And when we reach the top of every trail, you might find us doing the "Dance of the Joyous Woman", and celebrating the life that is in us all! And then perhaps collapsing for a nice long, rest, meal and photo session.
For more info and a complete list of upcoming National events go to www-traildame-s-com.
Also, please take a moment to read about hiking etiquette, clothing, etc, under the pages section. We are also looking for co-organizers to schedule and lead hikes! If you are interested, let us know. Also this is our group, so your ideas are always welcome!
And if you are concerned that you are too old, too out of shape, too curvy to keep up, you need not worry. We stop frequently, usually have a front group and rear group so as not to monopolize the trail, and to also offer two speeds. We are committed to creating an experience of celebrating nature and each other. Any hikes that are slightly more challenging or are on the more difficult side of moderate will be indicated in the description. Otherwise hikes are newbie friendly and we do our best to make sure no one is pushed beyond a reasonable limit. Often you do not even have to ask; we notice when some or more of us needs a break, but do NOT hesitate to ask. This is something you are meant to feel invigorated by... Not survive....
"I find hiking with the Dames is a great way to gradually move outside of my comfort zone, without scaring myself back into it! It is lovingly designed for someone like me - curvier and no young chicken!" - Lisa
Please try a few or more hikes with us to see if it is for you, then if you wish to become a member, you can pay online or mail a small minimum annual due of $23 and all guided hikes and coordination, mapping, pre hike reconnoiters when possible.. and first aid items are free, and we are always available for pre-hike questions, and there is a lot of gear info under pages section of the meetup.
if you have an idea for an event, post it under "SCHEDULE A NEW MEETUP" LINK on the home page. Just put where and then date you are thinking of and we will work with u to populate it.
