iOS (and cross-platform) App Development with Xamarin (Xcoders Redmond Meeting)

Our next meeting is on Thursday, May 22 and the topic is creating iOS apps with C# code using Xamarin. The talk will also briefly cover sharing the same C# code for cross-platform (iOS, Android, Windows) app development. Our speaker for this talk will be James Montemagno, a Developer Evangelist at Xamarin. Scroll down for more details on the talk (and more details on location/time/directions)

NOTE: Everyone who attends this meeting will be able to enter a drawing for a free ticket to (a Developer Conference for iPhone, iPad and Mac Developers). Everyone who attends the June 26 meeting will also be able to enter the drawing. Anyone who attends both meetings will get two entries to the drawing. The winner will be announced on June 26.

Others interested in the conference can use an Xcoders 15% discount code.

After the meeting, a subset of attendees (typically 5-10 people) head to a nearby Irish pub/restaurant

Here is a talk-description provided by James.

"Xamarin enables developers to create native iOS, Android, and Mac apps in C# and share code across all platforms while providing 100% API coverage on each platform. In this session we will go over all of the products on the Xamarin platform including the development tools and how they work under the hood to leverage the .NET framework in iOS, Android, and Mac. We will dive into creating iOS apps in C# inside of Xamarin Studio comparing how it would be done in Objective-C. This will include building our first iOS app in C# live! We will cover how to design user interfaces with Xamarin and how to add rich functionality with pre-built components. To finish it we will see how to share the code we wrote to reach over 2.6 Billion devices running other platforms such as Android."

"James Montemagno is a Developer Evangelist at Xamarin. He has been a .NET developer for over a decade working in a wide range of industries including game development, printer software, and web services. Prior to becoming a Developer Evangelist, James was a professional mobile developer on the Xamarin platform for over 2 years, with several published apps on iOS, Android, and Windows. He can be found on Twitter @JamesMontemagno"

The meeting starts at 7pm and it will be held in the first floor conference room 101 of Thinkspace in downtown Redmond ( )

Thinkspace is a 2-minute walk from the Redmond transit center. So if you’re coming over from downtown Seattle, you can take the bus (ST Express 545) to get here quickly.

Alternately, if you drive, parking is free.
