Extreme Hiring: Applying agile principles to hire better developers

A few months ago, we had a Fishbowl Discussion on what makes a good Agile developer.  But now that we know what we want, how do we go about finding and hiring them?  There are better ways to find and interview good candidates than just looking at a resume and then asking a few technical questions.  How do we test for "pairing" and TDD fanatics? Come join our discussion as we focus on how to find and hire good Agile developers.

About the speaker:
Peter Hamlen will be leading the discussion.  He  is an Agile coach and developer in the New York City area.  He is currently working as an Agile consultant at SunGard Global Services and leading a small 10-person Scrum team. He has 10+ years as an agile manager at Mail.com, Teach For America and others.    The initial part of the talk comes from his staff experience at Teach For America, an organization which hires 5000 people a year out of an applicant pool of over 40,000.  After that, we'll see where it goes!

This was my 1st meet up and it was GREAT! It was a breath of fresh air to be around/discuss with other Agile professionals how they go about hiring Agile Programmers/Developers/SW Engineers. I definitely had some good take-a-ways including tools and techniques. Thanks and I look forward to the next – Jason M. Hill

Thanks Ben, I was going to wait for confirmation about our usual location, however it seems that they have a few other events going on that week. Let's do it at TheLadders! Thanks for hosting!

I'd be interested in this. Both how to attract good candidates (and retain them) as well as how to refine the process of looking for a candidate

I'm always eager to hear about hiring practices at other companies and sharing experiences. I would definitely attend this.

VERY interesting topic! I'd love to hear more about how Agile principles are applied to the hiring process - not only to attract agile developers, but to improve the hiring process in general.

is the hiring technique "agile", or is it a hiring process to identify agile developers? Or both? I guess that's what the meetup explains.
