Celebrate International Women's Day with Middle Eastern Theater, Poetry & Music

"What Do Women Say?"

March 8 is International Women's Day and Golden Thread Productions hosts an amazing event to commemorate the occasion. Please join at 8 pm at the La Pena La Pena Cultural Center, 3105 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley.

Enjoy an evening of theater, poetry and music by women about the Middle East. Here's a summary of the evening's entertainment:

Leyla Modirzadeh's Bay Area debut in her solo-con-puppet satirical comedy, "Lubbock or Leave It!" about an Iranian New Yorker who accepts a job teaching college in the most conservative town in the US: Lubbock, Texas! Set against a backdrop of American fundamentalism, Leyla and her canine cohort Daisy (played by a hand puppet) learn some hard lessons about xenophobia, nationalism, and dislocation.

Minneapolis-based Kathryn Haddad sharing excerpts from her futuristic super hero play, Zafira the Olive Oil Warrior,

Bay Area hip-hop artist, Tru Bloo performing poetry from the recently published anthology, Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here, a tribute to Baghdad’s famous Bookseller’s Street.

You can get your tickets from the La Pena Box Office:[masked]-2568.

This is going to be an amazing event--I hope you all can make it. Purchase your tickets in advance if you can. This event has sold out the last couple of years. The venue only holds 120 people.
