7-Week Middle Eastern Themed Acting Workshop for Beginners

Introduction to Acting: Free the Actor Within!

Have you ever wanted to try acting? Now is your chance! Torange Yaghiazarian, founder and Artistic Director of Golden Thread Productions, America's only theater company dedicated to staging plays from and about the Middle East, is offering a 7-week acting workshop. Don't miss this opportunity to study from one of the most talented theater directors/playwrights in the country.

Introduction to Acting

7 Consecutive Sundays--3pm-5pm

June 9 – July 28, 2013 (No class on July 7th)
La Peña Cultural Center, 3105 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley
(two blocks from the Ashby BART station).

No prior acting experience required. Must be 18 or older to participate.

The Introduction to Acting workshop will introduce participants to improvisation, scene study and solo performance using plays by Middle-Eastern and Middle Eastern American playwrights as well as Middle Eastern performance traditions.

Each class will begin with vocal and physical warm ups, theatre games and collaborative exercises. Participants will learn how to analyze dramatic text and various approaches to building a character.

By the end of the 7-week workshop, participants will have developed a basic knowledge of acting styles, better understanding of dramatic text and more confidence in self expression.
