An Improvised "Arabian Nights"--Theatre and Live Arabic Music

Join Yalla Arabi for an enchanting evening combining theater and live Arabic music based on the stories of "The Arabian Nights." (Alf Layla we Layla).  An Improvised "Arabian Nights" will tell stories in the style of Shahrazad
of magic, heroes and wanderers.

An Improvised "Arabian Nights" Directed by Basel Al-Naffouri and Music by Joshua Raoul Brody and the Aswat Ensemble
Friday, August 1 @ 8:00 pm
Stage Werx, 446 Valencia St, San Francisco, California 94103
Ticket Prices: $20 (general) and $25 (VIP). Note there is a small service charge when you purchase your ticket online)
For tickets, visit: http://improvarabiannights.bpt.me/

An Improvised "Arabian Nights" is a *long-form improv performance brought to you by some of the Bay Area's most celebrated improvisers and classical Arabic musicians from the ASWAT ensemble. Our heroes and heroines inhabit an exciting world filled with genies, robbers, viziers, magical creatures, kings, princesses, demons, fishermen, merchants, ghouls and more.

Each evening's show is created entirely in the moment without any script. Actors create stories on the spot, ranging from 20-90 minutes in length. Though completely improvised, performances display well-acted narrative arcs similar to that of scripted movies and plays.

NOTE: The show will be performed on Friday, August 1 and on Saturday, August 2. Each night will be new and completely different from the one before.

Stage Werx, which is located at 466 Valencia Street in San Francisco's Mission District, is a few blocks away from the 16th Street BART station. Street parking in that neighborhood can be difficult so car pooling and public transportation is recommended.

There are also a lot of affordable restaurants in the Mission District, which are close to the theater.

I will update the invitation if I can find a suitable place to meet before or after the show.

I am not sure you can buy a ticket online. You can try. I am not sure if there will be tickets at the door. The theatre is not that big. I recommended that everyone buy their tickets in advance.

I'll have the yalla arabi sign and will wait just outside the theatre door on sidewalk after the show

I highly recommend that those who are coming in from the East Bay take BART. The 16th Street station is very close to the theater. The Outside Lands concert in San Francisco starts tonight and the traffic may be worse than usual. BART will be your best option. If you have to drive, leave early. It's a bit tricky trying to park in the Mission on the weekends. There are a few small lots and the Barlett Garage on Barlett Street near Mission and 21st is a option, but you'll have to walk 6-7 blocks.

I hope that everyone who is planning on going tonight has already purchased their tickets online. If you all want to get together after the performance, we can meet outside the theater (just outside the door--the lobby is too tiny to meet). We can go over the Limon or to Picaro for snacks. Faiza will be ushering so say "hi" to her. The theater is small. I will be sitting someone in the front 3 rows in the VIP section so come say "hi" to me too.

Ahlan bikum, the StageWerx theater isn't that big so I HIGHLY recommend that you purchase your tickets in advance for the show. I can't guarantee that there will be ticket at the door. There are only 2 performances for this event--one this Friday and one on Saturday.
