Hi Folks,

We haven't done anything in a while, so farvus nicht, watch a great old Yiddish movie.  Claudia has once again kindly volunteered her place as our theater and Adela will bring along yet another Yiddish movie to make it a double feature if we are so inclined.  I'll bring some wine, and who knows, maybe even a knish or two from the Carnegie Deli.  I just have to check that the dvd plays well. Mark your calendars.

very enjoyable movie. I know some people would have preferred more visible subtitles and others had trouble understanding the dialect but for me it was a very enjoyable experience.

Most of us aren't fluent or even close. It's definitely for those who want to improve their Yiddish.

Thanks but I don't. It's a very sad movie and a lot of it is just not translated, so your Yiddish antenna has to be set on maximum in order to understand anything.

Hi everyone! These movies have English titles so there's no problem as we can both practice Yiddish (while taking little secret glances at the titles as needed) and enjoy the thread of the movie too... lol!

I don't think I can make this but I had a question: how fluent must one be in Yiddish to belong. My Yiddish is far from fluent but I would like to improve it? Is this for those who can converse only in Yiddish?

Great idea! Regards to all from Mein Velt, coordinator of the California Yiddish Collective, the members of which welcomed me with open arms during my six week stay over June and July.
