Dear Village:

H.H. I spent the past few days in Louisville, KY listening to some longer teachings of H.H. The Dalai Lama and really appreciating the basic values he wished to instill in our society. The whole program was entitled "engaging compassion" and much of what he spoke of in the first day Public Talk was about creating compassion from within, then out to families, then as I would say - to the whole village. Humanity is made of individuals, he said. He laughed his contagious laugh and the St. Stephans choir amongst others sang; it was a beautiful program hosted by the Drepung Gomang Institute (the partner institute to the one we support in India).

shanti In June, we have another such revered guru visiting us, Shanti Mayi, who encourages similar values through "satsangs", community meetings, and a longer weekend intensive program. Info is below. Every few years she comes and what I remember most about these visits are the open comments from you all - how the community opens up about problems and questions and how she compassionately and powerfully leads everyone to experience the truth existent within. It's difficult to write such words, as they feel in fact empty. You must come to experience such a powerful teacher and thus experience the response in your own heart.

Namaste and
See you around the village!

The creative muses of poetry and dance will be with us in the second half. Exploring a poem via meditation and journal writing we will then do a Vinyasa practice adding sahaja (spontaneous movement) flow.
