Trauma and Medical Relief Programs for the Haitian Community in Miami and in Haiti
What happens when the heart of your nation, its financial and political capital, is virtually destroyed? What happens when at least 250,000 of your family and friends are crushed by collapsing buildings and 3 million people - 1/3 of the population - lose their families, their homes, their livelihoods - everything they've ever known? You lose hope.
RoseMarie Toussaint, M.D., a surgeon and Art of Living teacher, just returned from a trip to Haiti to the UM Medishare Hospital. Dr Toussaint?s trip to UM Medishare was part of the Medical Relief Efforts of the International Association For Human Values or IAHV. She speaks lovingly of her homeland. ?Taking care of so many of our brothers and sisters with infected wounds, dehydration, paralysis, amputations etc.. was challenging.?
She shared: ?It was truly inspiring to see so many people from all over the world helping the victims of this disastrous earthquake, side by side and around the clock. Caring for so many who were courteous and pleasant despite the dire circumstances was the most amazing experience. So much work needs to be done. IAHV must and will go back soon. Plans for IAHV?s Trauma Relief Sessions in Haiti have been crafted.?
"Being born and raised in Port-au-Prince, I did not realize that we were on a fault line. What has happened to my people, my friends and family has been just devastating. My country is suffering. The Haitian Diaspora in Miami is suffering. I wish to help by facilitating and coordinating the Trauma Relief Sessions in Miami. Our first session was chronicled in the Miami Herald. Partner with the IAHV and the Art of Living Teams in offering these Trauma Relieving Programs in your Community"
The first Art of Living courses were taught in Port-au-Prince in 2000 whereas IAHV?s Programs began several years ago in Les Cayes, Haiti. From the ghettos of Chicago, to New Orleans after Katrina, to Carrefour, Haiti, to the inaccessible tribal regions of India, over 2 million people all over the world have already benefitted from the IAHV?s Trauma Relief Workshops, building or re-building their lives after tragedies and their communities in the process.
