This Meetup offers yoga instruction with live, supportive acoustic music. We meet usually once or twice a month.
We invite various yoga instructors to lead the asanas. Danielle Katz, a certified yoga instructor at the 200 hour level and an experienced teacher, has lead our first meetups. Danielle incorporates breath-work and the spirit into her classes, which vary from vinyasa to restorative. She currently studies Ashtanga yoga in the tradition of Sri. K Pattabhi Jois and is pursuing a degree in nutrition and food science at Hunter College in Manhattan. she has led Music for Yoga with the Ensemble at JCC.
The music is presented by members of the Open Music Ensemble, www.myspace.com/openmusicensemble, which has performed at the Global Mala Yoga for Peace, where it’s “heart and sweet sounds filled the air”, the Yoga Festival, JCC, and regularly at the Yoga and Raw Food Expo. At prior meetups acoustic musical accompaniment has been provided by Jonathan Saraga on trumpet, Anne Dearth on flute, Ken Silverman on oud and guitar, Frederika Krier on violin, and others.
Practitioners of all levels, from beginners to advanced, are welcome. As we can not provide mats, please bring your own with you.
