Winter Backpacking Series - Three Ridges

One of my favorites backpacking spots
and day hike endurance/training course trail.

This is a moderate-strenuous back-country backpacking trip due to the incline of the trail on our way back but mostly for the cold winter time that is set to be done, you will enjoy one of a kind beauty terrain whit lots of frozen cascades/water falls.

Three Ridges is one of Virginia's most popular backpacking circuits. Situated in Central Virginia, just 30 miles southwest of Charlottesville, the hike has vista after vista along the Appalachian Trail, and many small waterfalls and pools on the Mau-Har Trail on Campbell Creek.

Come out and find out the hard way by experiencing three Ridges in the George Washington NF.
This circuit will involve incline, decline, rock scrambling and excellent views.
This hike is absolutely NOT for the weak knee/ankle/foot nor for those with low stamina.

This isn't an easy hike (mainly due to the trail length and that one of a kind incline at the center so please consider your physical condition if attending this activity.

Does anybody else have a car? If everyone except Megan and Aileen needs a ride, 5 people can theoretically fit in my Corolla, but I don't think it is something that should be done for a long trip.

@Matt, will you have room to take me? I can meet at vienna

    January 15, 2013

    • Megan B.

I drive a very small vehicle. I can fit 3 people+gear max, and even that's a tight squeeze.

Also, Aileen and I were planning to leave the Beltsville/Greenbelt area at around 5 and head for the trail. Is anyone else nearby or interested in leaving a bit early?

    January 14, 2013

  • Darwin

Right now the snow is melting so is NOT going to be as cold and hard to travel as I spec, any way I still hopping for the weather to change and bring some snow for this weekend, 2 feet will make me happy.
