I have a question about plug-ins. Few of the ones I'm interested in loading are updated to 3.7.1. If a plugin does NOT indicate that it is updated to WP 3.7.1, should I stay clear of it? Thanks for any feedback about this.

Not necessarily, just because a plug says it is not tested with lasted version does not mean it won't work fine. Many of the plugins I use regularly have not been tagged as working with latest version of WordPress yet they work fine. The biggest concern is if a plugin has not been updated in a long time. I will go with plugins less than 2 years since last update, preferably within 6 to 12 months.

With my being a novice, I am concerned about making costly mistakes. So, thank you for your helpful reply, John. :-)

Great informative presentation, as usual. John is also always willing to answer questions, which tonight ranged from how to paste in a post you had written in Word, to how to use short codes. It's wonderful to have such a knowledgable and generous source of information about the ins and outs (and ups and downs) of Wordpress.

Working with 3 non-profits, looking for options for website theme linked with Facebook, twitter. Would like bulletin board and possibly secured membership area. One non-profit has Wordpress site that needs improvements, the other 2 are websites that we might be better as Wordpress.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
