The 1 to 5 Club (also on Facebook) is a program of the Utah Pride Center for the Bisexual, Pansexual, Omnisexual, sexually fluid and Asexual.
Do you identify your sexual orientation as being outside the boundaries of Heterosexual, Gay or Lesbian? Then this group is for you! Join us!
We meet 2 times per month on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:30 at the Utah Pride Center. The first meeting of the month is the Peer Support Group which is an open, safe space discussion designed to help all members of the sexually fluid community come together and support each other. The meeting on the 4th Monday is our "Fluidly Speaking" discussion, where the topic is more focused on specific ideas. There are also other activities that are planned which will be announced on the Facebook page. Other activities include movie nights, potlucks, picnics, bar nights and gallery strolls.
The name 1 to 5 comes from the Kinsey scale of 0 – 6, where 0 is exclusively heterosexual and 6 being exclusively homosexual. The numbers between 1 and 5 indicate bisexuality as an umbrella term including pansexual, omnisexual, fluid and those not wishing to label themselves but still do not identify with as either 0 or 6.
Introducing the scale, Kinsey wrote: “Males do not represent two discrete populations, heterosexual and homosexual. The world is not to be divided into sheep and goats. It is a fundamental of taxonomy that nature rarely deals with discrete categories... The living world is a continuum in each and every one of its aspects. While emphasizing the continuity of the gradations between exclusively heterosexual and exclusively homosexual histories, it has seemed desirable to develop some sort of classification which could be based on the relative amounts of heterosexual and homosexual experience or response in each history [...] An individual may be assigned a position on this scale, for each period in his life. [...] A seven-point scale comes nearer to showing the many gradations that actually exist.”
