Ontario Latin Arts Festival

The Ontario Latin Arts Festival (OLAF 2013) is a unique one-day event in Canada that will celebrate the culture of the Latin America This festival will showcase Latin music, dance, film, literature, traditional storytelling and educational art workshops through out the festival.

Performers: Cafe Cubano, salsa bands; Santerias, an eclectic blend of cajon, flamenco guitar, electric bass and drums; Mariachi Fuego; Samba Toronto; Carlos Bastidas Latin Jazz band; Cabildo, a traditional folk dance ensemble; Chirimia Baru a big band ensemble performing traditional music; and Ballet Folklorico Puro Mexico . Toronto’s top tropical dancing schools Dami Dance, Casineros Unidos, Afrolatino Dance Company and Toronto Dance Salsa, and dancers from the salsa group Toronto Casino and Timba, are going to perform.

3:00 pm - Salsa lesson: Join 219 Dance and Entertainment instructors and learn the basic steps and rhythm of Salsa! 
3:30 pm - Bachata lesson: Join 219 Dance and Entertainment instructors and learn the basic steps and rhythm of Bachata! 
4:00 pm - Cumbia Lesson by Falciony Patiño (Cabildo) 
4:30 pm - Contemporary Dance lesson by Juanita Suarez (Cabildo)
5:00 pm - Mexican dance by Maria Jose Miranda (Puro Mexico) 
This workshop will cover the basic steps required to follow dances from the state of Jalisco, the land of tequila! The focus will be the “Jarabe Tapatío” a distinctive dance that represents the country worldwide.

For Kids: 
1:00 - 4:00 pm – Kids art workshops –

3:00 pm Latin American Shorts Films – by Alucine 
Short films that will take you on an animated journey to wonderful worlds filled with magic and hilarious characters including an ogre, light makers, skeletons, and a kind witch! Get ready for a ride filled with exuberant kids, surprise endings and colorful short films. The best of Latin-American animation.

4:00 pm - Traditional Spanish Storytelling: 
Alfredo Correa will share traditional Latin American folk stories with children and the general public, in Spanish. Born in Colombia, he is a master of the oral tradition of telling folk stories of his home town.

There is going to be also talk about hispanic writers in Canada at 3:00 pm
