November Book Club
This month’s book is “The Mushroom at the End of the World” by Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing. What survives in a habitat disturbed by humans? How does capitalism affect a landscape? Tsing explores these subjects in her book through the lens of the matsutake mushroom, a delicacy in Japan, but currently scarce there. She follows the supply chain and shows how the demand for a product in one place can affect the whole planet.

    What we're about

We meet at a bar in Lincoln Park once a month to discuss that month's book, as well as select the next month's book. Past books range from literary (such as The Secret History by Donna Tartt) to popular (Carrie by Stephen King), from fiction to nonfiction (Last Call by Daniel Okrent), from excellent (A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan) to—occasionally—atrociously bad (Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn).

You must be in your mid-20s to mid-30s to join, answer all profile questions, and include a photo of yourself (to recognize you when you come to the meeting and to roughly verify age) for membership approval.

We regularly remove members from the group who haven't RSVP'd or attended in a while. Nothing personal!
