Sunday Bike n Brunch (Monthly)

Hello all -- Seeing that 10am tomorrow is predicted to be sub-40 and 10+ mph winds, we are switching this up to a non-bike meet.

We'll be meeting at the American History Museum and checking out the exhibit "America on the Move", about the history of transportation in America.

Afterwards, we'll head to lunch somewhere appropriate to the size of the group.  If it's warm enough by the time we're done with lunch, we may head to Roosevelt Island and walk around, but that is TBD.

Apologies for the last minute change in plans;  Please update your RSVP so we know how many we are waiting on before heading in.

Hmm..I thought bowling might be an option but I didn't realize that that there are not many bowling alleys in DC. http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=bowling&find_loc=Washington%2C+DC&ns=1

Smithsonian history museum sounds good. Agree the National Mall seems to be more convenient location.

The botanic garden is also awesome but further near the Capitol which is harder to get to on a bike.

If the weather permits hiking, I've been meaning to get out to Theodore Roosevelt island. Seems like a short hike but can't seem to find the mileage. http://www.nps.gov/this/planyourvisit/upload/TRI-Brochure.pdf

good call steph. I usually go to the island for tranquility during the summer, there is so much space that there is never more than a couple of people in one spot. I even tried to get some people to come with me once last summer but you all and your special locking shoes...

Ok folks -- Weather forecast is predicting 37 and windy on Sunday, so a bike ride might not be entirely pleasant. How do folks feel about hitting up the Smithsonian, and then brunching afterwards? America on the Move is an installation all about transportation at the American History Museum; feels somewhat related to our usual activities, so I thought it might be interesting: http://amhistory.si.edu/onthemove/

Afterwards, we can walk over to Chinatown for some eats. The truly stalwart cyclists are welcome to bike in. Yay? Nay? Any other ideas would be welcome.

I like the idea of something indoors....specially because I know I would be okay for hiking bit might not be fun after first few minutes cuz of the weather.....

I think Paul has a point -- Given the nature of winter, it might be a good idea to have a contingency plan.

I'm thinking if it's too cold for cycling, but not too cold/wet for walking around we could go to great falls or something of that nature. Participants without cars will need to hitch rides with those with cars. If it's too cold for outdoorsy stuff at all, we can either 1) just brunch; or brunch and museum. I'll ping the group when the weather forecast is more reliable, but in the meantime, feel free to toss in any ideas!
