The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is the largest Roman Catholic church in the United States and North America, and is one of the ten largest churches in the world. The only structure in DC taller than the Basilica is the Washington Monument.
Aside from the impressive architecture, the Basilica is filled with impressive artwork from around the world.
The free tour starts at 2pm so we can meet at 1:45 near the Information Desk on the lower level of the Basilica’s east side near the Gift Shop. Volunteer Docents lead visitors through the Basilica’s major works of art, history, and other highlights while traversing the massive expanse of the Great Upper Church and Crypt Level on a one-hour tour.
The Basilica is located at 400 Michigan Avenue, Northeast, Washington, D.C. Free parking is available on site and it's also about a quarter mile walk from the Brookland/CUA Metro station (red line).
