'One Night Only: Poetry and Prose with a Purpose' is an upscale showcase of poetry and neo soul, including a live band, DJ, and great ambiance.

The show will be held on Saturday, December 15th at the AKArama Foundation Community Services Center, 6220 S. Ingleside Ave, Chicago, IL 60637. Doors open at 7:00 pm, and the show begins at 8:15 pm. Light hors d' oeuvres will be served, and a cash bar is available.

Pre-sale tickets are $16 and can be purchased online at . The price increases to $20 on the day of the event. The confirmation page will serve as your ticket.

The event is jointly sponsored by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. Theta Omega Chapter in Chicago. Proceeds generated and donated to the AKArama Foundation in care of the Global Poverty Initiative will be used to fund programs supported by the Heifer Foundation (global) and Prosperity House (local).

'One Night Only' is produced by Kay Joe Unscripted, a phenomenal local spoken word artist. Those who attended our first poetry meetup at Soul Vegetarian or one of our other 'One Night Only' meetups had a chance to hear him perform.

Chicago Black Professionals Meetup member Sydeaka will be performing!

Ed Mabrey will be the featured spoken word artist! Ed is a two-time Individual World Poetry Slam Champion (2007/2012) and was the first person of color to win the title, 2012 Poetry Slam Artist of the Year, 2-time Poet of the Year (Ohio), National Poetry Slam Finalist, an Emmy nominated actor, National Best Selling poetry anthology contributor, amateur comedian, motivational speaker, Master of Ceremonies, and poet. He has toured internationally and conducted performances and workshops at over 50 colleges and universities. His thought-provoking poetry and unique style of performance will draw you into each piece. He's one of my favorite poets, and I know you'll enjoy him too! Don't miss it!

Visit the link below to see Ed Mabrey's 2009 performance of his poem "Pursuit of Happyness" [sic] at NYC Urbana Poetry Slam.

You'll also get a chance to catch an amazing lineup of talented local spoken word artists. Neo soul performers include Kenya McGuire, B.E.N. and Erin Sedalia!

RESERVED SEATING: When you have purchased your tickets, please email me your full name (first and last) and the number of guests in your party. I have arranged for reserved seating for members of the Chicago Black Professionals Social Network, so I need to get a count of paid attendees.
