• Toronto 3D Printers Meetup at MakerKids (January)

Taken from The Toronto 3D Printers Website (http://www.toronto3dprinters.com/blog/2014/1/8/happy-new-year-january-meetup-at-a-new-location): After a break in December, our next meetup is now scheduled to take place on January 27th at 7pm. This time though, we'll be at MakerKids in their new Digital Creations space (pictured above). MakerKids (http://www.makerkids.ca/) is a youth-oriented makerspace near Dundas West station that also offers programs for adults. They've recently expanded to another floor of their building, and have started selling some retail items like Arduino kits. There will be some Cube 3D printers on-hand, as well as (hopefully!) a few more models that our members bring with them. As always, everyone from beginner to expert is welcome to attend, and the event is free of charge.

  • 3D Scan and Print with Photon 3D Scanner, Kinect & 123D Catch

For our May Meetup.com event, we are focusing our energy on the low-cost 3D scanning options that compliment the printer trends. Just like with 3D Printing, the price range of 3D scanning technology has until recently been prohibitively expensive for the average consumer or small office. Things have started to change in the last year as low cost options in using free software ReconstructMe (along with a Microsoft Kinect), Autodesk's 123D Catch, and the exciting new Photon 3D Scanner (currently ending its breakthrough campaign on Indiegogo). What some of you may not know is that the Photon 3D Scanner is a product of Toronto's own Matterform, and they'll be in attendance to give a little run down of what they've been up to and how they've managed to raise what is now approaching half a million dollars for their campaign ( http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/photon-3d-scanner/ )

  • Introduction to 3D Printing (Content covered will be same as April 17th)

PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO HIGH DEMAND, WE ARE OFFERING A SECOND SESSION. WE WILL BE COVERING THE SAME MATERIALS FROM THE APRIL 17TH SESSION. --------- People & Code and Draft Print 3D are once again working together on providing you with a glimpse of what the future may bring. This meetup is for everyone interested in learning more about 3D printing, from the low range printers to what the higher end machines can offer. We will have a variety of hobbyist / prosumer printers both on display and buzzing away for you to see. After a half hour talk on the topic, we open up the floor to any questions about this emerging technology. Update: This event page hasn't been updated for a while but worry not, the event will still be happening next week. I'll send out more info in the coming days. We've since acquired Makerbot's newest offering, the Makerbot 2X for the space, so that'll be printing away as well!
