• Introduction to Angel Investment

    3mile Coworking Community

Hello movers and shakers in the Wairarapa. We need YOU! Perhaps you're a property investor, or an ex-business owner, or a lawyer or an accountant or a retired executive wanting to get your hands dirty again... We're hoping to launch an angel investment club later this year, and need to find our smart, connected people who might like to add another asset class to their investment porfolio. Generating returns from inspirational high-growth, startup companies is critical for New Zealand - and for the Wairarapa. These companies are our future economic powerhouses. Investing in these companies is not for the faint-hearted but it is enjoyable and a rewarding use of time and capital. This event will feature presentations from angel investors, angel backed companies and an overview of the proposed Wairarapa Angel Network. Coming along doesn't commit you to investing! We just want to spark conversations - but feel free to forward this to friends, family and connections that might be persuaded to participate in boosting our regions innovations. FREE event Drinks and canapes will be served.

  • Hey consultants!? Are you Taking Care of Professional Development?

    3mile Coworking Community

Are you one of the estimated 16,000 New Zealanders who call themselves a management consultant? Or maybe you don’t use that term but nonetheless provide independent advice to managers and organisations in a specific industry or specialism; for example, agriculture, communications, engineering, finance, or technology start-ups? Perhaps you work for a large corporate, government, or NGO organisation, and see yourself as an internal consultant? Or maybe you are a manager, project manager, business analyst, or MBA student, considering a career change or transition? However you define yourself, you are probably very strong on your functional specialism, keep up-to-date with industry trends, networks, and ideas, and prioritise industry-specific professional development and conferences. However if you are like most other management consultants in New Zealand, and particularly if you are not with one of the ‘big 4’ firms, maybe less so around the specific cluster of related abilities, commitments, knowledge, and skills, that would make you a more effective management consultant? In this session Iain Matheson will chat about: *Management consulting in New Zealand; *The case for management consulting-specific professional development; *The International Council of Management Consulting Institute’s competence framework; *Low or no cost professional development resources e.g. management consulting books, articles, websites, blogs, and podcasts; *Overseas and online professional development programmes; and *New Zealand professional development programmes and support. Iain is a Carterton-based social sector management consultant and researcher, with 15 years of experience as a consultant. He is a former member of the Institute of Management Consultants New Zealand’s national governing council and professional development portfolio lead. Iain is also the author of the Institute’s New Zealand Guide for Aspiring Certified Management Consultants. Free for members, $10 koha for non-members, or purchase a ten-trip from 3mile.nz

  • Funding your business - introduction to options for growth

    3mile Coworking Community

A repeat of one of our most popular workshops. Trying out a new time too! Many NZ entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized enterprises are looking to innovate, commercialize and evolve. But there's often two barriers to do this – cash flow and funding. We'll save cashflow for another time - this workshop is ALL ABOUT THE FUNDING!! Seeking funding can be a daunting challenge at the best of times, particularly in today's highly competitive marketplace. Come along to get an understanding of the funding options that are available to us - banks, angels, government, crowd funding etc - and how to best position you and your business to maximize the opportunities. M-C has had experience raising angel investment, applying for and winning government grants and has a pretty good relationship with her bank too ;) Matt Carrere is WREDA's Business Growth Team Lead and will outline the funding and support packages open to businesses in the Wairarapa through WREDA. Cost: $5 koha for non members Free for 3mile members (sign up here https://www.3mile.nz/membershipoptions/) Includes a cuppa and feel free to bring lunch

  • Negotiation Skills for life and business

    3mile Coworking Community

Negotiating for yourself – not something you can do, like doing, avoid, or just plain give in? Do you then end up disappointed you didn’t give it a go? Well lots of people feel like you do. That means many of the people you might negotiate with in your life, (an employer, shop owner who you want a discount from, a price for your work or something you are selling), feel like you, they would prefer not to. Here’s your first advantage. Develop your skills, build your confidence in your ability to negotiate, hell, believe in yourself, that you can get a better outcome, rather than avoid advocating for yourself, and you are already way ahead of all those who’d like to avoid it. Let them be the ones to give in. Life is our own journey and the reality is that if we want to shape it more to the way we want it to be, we must be strong advocates for ourselves. In this short workshop you will *Learn or be reminded of one of the most powerful tools for negotiating, selling or buying. *Be introduced to a ‘pressure on pressure off ’ technique to help maximise the outcome in your favour. (Win Win outcomes, are not about each side giving things up). Free for members, $10 koha for non members Brought to you by Michael Woodcock: Hi, I’m Michael Woodcock. I’ve got 20 years of sales and marketing experience along with nearly nine years as union negotiator to offer you. I’ve learnt a few lessons along the way and want to help you to be successful in your business. We have lived in rural Carterton 24 years. I commute daily to Wellington and have just reduced to a four-day week as I transition to a new phase of work, nature-based workshops and retreats.
