• Players session - Elementary level (Beginners - Grade 5)

    Hilary's House

    £4.00

Open to pianists of any level from Beginners-Grade 5. This is deliberately aimed at anyone out there who hasn't yet come to a session because they might feel intimidated by pianists who they imagine to be more advanced than them. No one higher than approximately grade 5 level please. Beginners are especially encouraged. Come along and try out your pieces to a small, friendly and supportive group of other pianists (no audience). Just part of a work, or the whole thing; just one piece, or several; a polished piece, or one that it is in it's infancy. Maybe you want to try out playing a piece from memory? Or playing in an idiom that is outside your comfort zone? Or maybe you simply want to perform a piece that is technically really easy for you just to gain confidence in performing in front of others? Whatever your reasons use the opportunity to gain from it what you need. The idea is to get experience and build confidence in playing in front of others and to generally have fun with the sharing experience. (Please don't use it to compare yourself with others, which can be demoralizing - that's not the idea at all). Play what you feel comfortable with, and for reasons that are valuable to you. It's simply a personal journey. We will be playing on a Bluthner grand piano at my house. Numbers are limited to 6 as it's a small room. After discussion with past groups it would now seem reasonable to make a small charge (£4), not only to establish a commitment to turning up, but also to help reimburse me for the annual costs imposed by MeetUp for running the site.

  • Fun playing session - performing in a safe space to a small number of colleagues

    • What we'll do Come and have a go at performing in front of a small gathering of a few people. Pianists only. Any level - all are welcome, although in view of the Elementary session scheduled for 21st Oct, more advanced players are encouraged to come to this (Grade 5 and above). An opportunity to try out a new piece you've been practising, or even part of a piece, or to challenge yourself with memorizing perhaps? We will play and also have a chat session over a cuppa - a good opportunity for teachers to get together and exchange ideas, or just keen amateurs to talk about favourite pieces, or how to tackle the difficult spots. Anything goes... We will play on my Bluthner grand, but it is a small room, so spaces are limited to a maximum of 7. After a few discussions with past groups it would seem reasonable to make a small charge (£4), not only to establish a commitment to turning up, but also to help reimburse some of the costs imposed by MeetUp for running the site. I hope this doesn't put any of you off. I look forward to seeing you. • What to bring • Important to know

An opportunity to try out a new piece you've been practising, or even part of a piece, or to challenge yourself with memorizing perhaps? We will start with a short playing session where everyone performs something, then have a chat session over a cuppa - a good opportunity for teachers to get together and exchange ideas, or just keen amateurs to talk about favourite pieces, or how to tackle the difficult spots. Anything goes... It is a small room, so spaces are limited to a maximum of 8. Formerly we played on my Bechstein grand, but I now have a Bluthner. If anyone is interested in purchasing my Bechstein please get in touch. It is still here! I look forward to seeing you. • What to bring • Important to know
