The campsite is full... if there is additional interest in this event, please send me a message. If we get enough people, we can get another campsite.
I've heard a lot about Cleghorn Ridge Road - mostly that the conditions vary quite a lot year to year, depending on the rainfall. This road is passable by a stock vehicle on the fire road portion, but also has off-shoots that are moderate to difficult and require high-clearance, lockers, spotter, etc. You can make a decision to join the 4WD portions or stay on the fire road, BUT you probably can't turn around after you have committed to the 4WD sections. The 4WD sections are not recommended for stock vehicles - see the youtube video links below and you'll see why.
This trip will be a camping and 4WD trip combined. We'll meet at the Silverwood Campground. I have reserved one site, max of 8 people.
13988 Sawpit Canyon Rd, Hesperia, CA 92345
The plan will be to stay Friday night, then hit the road on Saturday morning and take it west and then back east again. We'll stay Saturday night, if you wish, and depart on Sunday. Also on Sunday will be a strenuous hike to Cajon Mountain. That hike is listed on the LA Hiking Group and I expect some overlap between that group and this one. There may be hikers that don't do 4WD, and also 4WD drivers that don't want to do the strenuous hike.
The LA Hiking page describing the hike itself is here: https://www.meetup.com/los-angeles-hiking-group/events/257485859/
To get a view of how difficult this will be, check out the youtube videos on the area:
For Sunday, there may be some interest in an Intermediate hike to Bailey Peak. I'm looking for someone to lead that hike. It would be 8 miles r/t with 2,400' EG as an out & back hike. That would be the yellow line on the Caltopo page: https://caltopo.com/m/HD1U
There will be a $20 fee associated with this event to cover the cost of the camp site. No other benefit will be provided for this $20 fee beyond space in the campsite. This is not an RV site, it is a tent site. Check out their website for a full list of amenities.
They also rent boats and there is fishing at Silverwood Lake.
I propose a communal dinner on Saturday night. There are fire rings at the campsites and I will bring the charcoal and lighter fluid and some cooking utensils.
Who will bring paper-towels, aluminum foil, plates, plates, utensils?
There is a limit of 8 on this event and a limit of 8 on the LA Hiking event. Please do not sign up for both events. If there is more than 8 total, I will get multiple camp sites and adjust the fees.
Payment will be via PayPal or Venmo ONLY (the Meetup website only lists the option of Cash, but that is NOT accepted).
