Movement matters- a workshop for honouring times of change
A weekend workshop for tending to ourselves in times of transition. How as contemporary city dwellers can we craft rites to mark our own times of significant transition - at whatever life stage that may be occurring? Rhythm is a refuge. Movement matters. Conscious dance cultivates community. Getting lost and getting found, together, in the dance. Coming home - here to our heart. We will use 5 Rhythms dance and the arts to support us with what needs to be honoured- creating our own radical rite of passage for these times of changes. The 5Rhythms are a map to everywhere we want to go—inner, outer, forward, back, physical, emotional, intellectual—they reconnect us to the wisdom of our bodies and unleash movement’s dynamic healing power. In this weekend workshop we will take time to be with what is shifting and changing shape in our lives. We will dance indoors and out, sit and speak in circle; and use the arts to find a good way forwards; finishing up with a fire on the seashore. We will be based out of Yellowave's stunning seafront studio. All age[masked] are welcome! Please note we will work at a much deeper emotional level than our evening events so we require people to have at least ten session dance experience in 5 Rhythms or a related practice before attending. pre booking is required. Prerequsites: 20 hours dancing a mindful movement practice. We will work deeply and tend to ourselves carefully- that said one weekend cannot be a substitute for long term professional therapy for a severe major life event (if needed); please ensure you have adequate support stuctures in place to support you in diving deep. What we're about

This is a group for people who want to come together to take part in conscious dance in spectacular settings in and around Brighton.

We have regular events in a studio on Brighton seashore, sometimes we dance out in the woods around a fire on the South Downs using silent disco headsets.

For many millennia people have gathered together to dance; often out of doors. Science has since proven that those who dance regularly have brighter minds, greater emotional intelligence and a calmer presence.

The 5Rhythms dance is one type of movement-based mindfulness practice.

It’s a great way to enjoy ourselves, to exercise and to meditate- all in the same moment!

It’s a free form practice, so all you need is the willingness to follow your own feet. There are no steps to learn, nothing to get right. No previous experience is necessary- you are welcome exactly as you are.

The dance sessions are gently guided through the headsets, letting us find the freedom of moving together in areas of outstanding beauty- with no nasty noise pollution to the surrounding environment.

Events are facilitated by fully accredited 5 Rhythms teacher and accomplished dance producer Tess Howell.

Dancing not only increase our physical agility and fitness; it also increases our authenticity, our emotional awareness, and our effectiveness in the wider world as we become more embodied. There is potency in being present; our dance practice supports us to keep coming back to being here, now.

When we dance outdoors we feel connected: to ourselves, to those that come together to dance; and to the wider world around us. Compassion and community grows. When we are outdoors our vision get wider, we relax and receive more, becoming open to greater intuition and increased insight.

There is no doubt that nature nurtures us.

The Japanese government recommends regular “forest bathing” the practice of moving outside in nature. They have found it scientifically proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce stress, boost the immune system, and improve overall wellbeing.

We’d heartily recommend dancing outdoors too!

It’s a wonderful way to relax and recharge, to literally “come to our senses” as we move to the music; getting out into the great outdoors.

All events are open to anyone over the age of 16. All our events are drink and drug free. No dance experience is necessary. Be warmly welcomed to join us.....
