Saturday Critique Meeting

Hi Everyone, please join us for our weekly critique meeting. We are holding this every Saturday afternoon at Vie de Boheme Winery (which is open to all ages). They have a great back room that can be closed off from the rest of the restaurant so it's an ideal place for reading aloud.

We are using a read-aloud format. If you wish to have your work critiqued, please bring a short piece or chapter (about 2-3 double-spaced pages) to read out loud to the group. It can be any genre, including non-fiction or poetry, but we do ask that the material be PG-13 as we are in a public place and don't put age restrictions on our writers. You don't have to read - you can show up to listen and critique or just listen. We don't have set time limits on critiques - all we ask is that you be mindful of how many readers are reading after you so that everyone gets a chance to read. We don't charge for the meetings, but we do ask that everyone buy something to support the venue so they let us come back. :)

Please RSVP so we have an accurate count to give the restaurant.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I can't wait for you to see the Black Barnacle as I see the Black Barnacle.

Because the issue of "dive" and "dove" came up and startled pretty much everybody in attendance, allow Merriam Webster to clear up the confusion (for those of you not active in the Facebook group):

    Examples of DIVE:

She DOVE into the swimming pool.
The children like to DIVE off the boat.
The competitors will be DIVING from the highest platform.
Many people enjoy DIVING on the island's coral reefs.
You can't DIVE in this water without a wet suit.
The submarine can DIVE to 3,000 feet.
The whale DOVE down to deeper water.

    The link provides full information.

I can't get the rat skull & crossbones out of my head! I'm looking forward to the next episode. I think you have a winner Katie.

Thanks, Fred! We'll see which bit I bring in next. I incorporated critiques to the chapter I read and may need to know if the new opening works as the opening of the story. Or, you know, the next chapter. Wherever the heart leads, I guess.

Very helpful. Thank you everyone for your feedback on my story. By the comments and consensus I know what I need to work on. It should be interesting and is a great chance to practice areas where I am weak, such as dialogue and scene building.

I am so super excited to see this story evolve. What can I say? It appeals to the monster in me. ;)

How red did i turn? I transposed the numbers for pages 2 and 3. Things got ugly fast. I'll make it a priority to double check next time. Welcome to the new folks. I know I'm an amateur but I usually don't flounder that badly.
