What we're about

If you've ever been touched by a piece of writing and want to try this yourself, this is the course for you.

We will work with three types of creative writing: flash-fiction, short stories and poems.

Each class is designed to help you:

- move beyond your limitations,
- let go of worry and perfectionism,
- get started (and keep going),
- turn anecdotes & experiences into raw material.

It doesn't take talent or genius to write well--just regular practice.

We'll start with the basics:

- opening sentences,
- setting the scene,
- introducing characters.

Producing rough drafts, we'll work through editing and revision, sharing our progress each week and receiving constructive feedback.

Expect to participate, and steadily improve with each week's in-class and take-home assignments. Reading, analysis, narrating and giving feedback (both to yourself and others) are what being a writer is all about.

Join us and find your voice on paper, so your readers can grow in the telling.

There are 4 FREE monthly sessions online, each Tuesday evening from 19:00-20:00. Participating members also receive a 10-page outline of the complete course, with exercises, examples and questions designed to inspire your practice.

You can attend as many (or as few) of these as you'd like--the choice is up to you, based on your schedule and readiness to improve!

Your host,

Calvin

We'll be focusing on generating raw material for your poem, flash-fiction or short story, with in-class exercises designed to inspire your first few lines. We then read each piece aloud, giving and receiving constructive feedback. Tips for revising and expanding your work will follow each session, along with a short at-home assignment. Each week, we'll also analyse a new work by an established master, learning from their craft.
