What we're about

This is a group for folks in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s (and a few other decades) who are looking for opportunities to meet people and who enjoy playing casual, recreational volleyball for fun. Historically, this evolved from an event in a singles social group, but it is NOT a dating service, and there are now married folk among us.

We play volleyball at Jenness Beach in Rye, NH, during the summer, and indoors during the cold months. Most of our members live in the NH seacoast region or thereabouts. This group has no political or religious affiliation, so it includes folks with many different beliefs.

Beach Volleyball at Jenness Beach

Jenness Beach

Beach volleyball season is here at last! As of 6/15, all of the official government prohibitions against playing volleyball at Jenness Beach have been lifted. So let's play beach volleyball until the sun goes down! *** PARKING (Summer 2020) *** • Metered parking at the beach. Credit cards and cash are accepted. Time purchased at any NH beach is good at any other NH beach with meters. • Parking in the field behind the shops across the street. During the day, they offer parking for $20. If they are still charging after 5pm, you can tell them that you are here for volleyball and they may only charge $5. Also, if you are planning to eat dinner afterward at the New England Bounty Bar & Grill (part of The Dunes Motor Inn), mention that. • No parking on side streets except for Rye residents. • No parking along the main road (NH-1A). LEVEL OF PLAY This event is the social, easy end of recreational volleyball, but enthusiasm and a good sense of humor are required. Newcomers are welcome. No negative behavior is tolerated. No using feet or legs to hit the ball in our games. Team sizes usually range from 6 to 8 on the court at one time. Any additional players rotate in. WHAT TO BRING The beach is often cooler and more breezy than inland, so there may be days when you would be glad to have an extra layer of clothing with you. You will want water to drink. You can buy bottled water and snacks at the Sandpiper Grocery across the street. BATHROOMS The bathhouse is back in operation, but may be locked around 7:30pm or 8pm. However, there is also a port-a-potty behind the shops across the street. If you drive south along the ocean, there are bathrooms at other beaches. Their hours vary. CELL SERVICE On the beach itself, you might not have service. If you walk to the parking lot or across the street, you are more likely to get a signal. WEATHER Passing showers don't necessarily cancel this event, but drenching rain, thunderstorms that don't pass quickly, or cold weather may. MORE INFORMATION Please RSVP if you are coming so that you can receive messages about any last minute changes in plan. If your plans change, just update your RSVP. If you are bringing a guest...it is your responsibility to ensure that your guest agrees to the release of liability and complies with the requests of any organizer. If you want to bring more guests than the Meetup site allows, just contact the organizer in advance.
