Join us on the end of May Bank Holiday weekend for 3 days of all inclusive, with home made food, hiking and sightseeing trip in the Southern Snowdonia National Park, we will be going up Cadair Idris, justifiably the second most-popular mountain in Wales after Snowdon. We plan to climb mount Snowdon as well.
Situated on the west coast of Britain covering 823 square miles of diverse landscapes, Snowdonia National Park is a living working area, home to over 26,000 people. As well as being the largest National Park in Wales, Snowdonia boasts the highest mountain in Wales, and the largest natural lake in Wales, as well as a wealth of picturesque villages like Betws y Coed and Beddgelert. Snowdonia is an area steeped in culture, and local history.
The jagged peaks of Snowdonia are among the most ancient rocks on earth. The local culture is also rather ancient, with music and poetry dating back to the Bronze Age. About 65% of the local population speak Welsh, one of the oldest spoken languages in Europe, as their mother tongue.
We will be discovering the Southern Snowdonia with Cadair Idris mountain - 893 m, or to use its anglicised title of Cader Idris, derives its name meaning 'Chair of Idris' from the giant warrior poet of Welsh legend.
Cadair Idris is probably the most spectacular mountain in Wales outside of the main three mountain massifs in the north. Some say it is the best and I wouldn't argue. Due to its less accessible geographic location it is often much quieter the more popular north. The Cadair Idris massif is a fantastic example of a glacial landscape sculptured by the last Ice Age.
The summit itself is called Pen y Gadair. This incredible walk takes you round the narrow rim of its most impressive cwm.
Cwm Cau is a stunning amphitheatre of huge cliffs towering and circling the beautiful waters of Llyn Cau.
Climbing Mount Snowdon is one of the top adventures Wales has to offer! At 1,085 meters, Mount Snowdon is the tallest mountain in Wales (and taller than anything in England as well — only Scotland has higher peaks!), and climbing it is a rite of passage for adrenaline junkies in the UK.
We will be based in the South of Snowdonia, having rented Ty’n y Berth Centre accommodation just for our group.
Ty’n y Berth Centre is situated on the edge of the beautiful Snowdonia National Park, the perfect base for a range of adventure activities using the surrounding mountains, lakes and woodlands.
YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR OWN DUVET COVER, PILLOW CASE AND SHEET. THE CENTRE DOES NOT PROVIDE bedding.
We will have 3-4 hike leaders on this trip and 3-4 organised hikes/walks on every day with different length and pace, including Cadair Idris and Snowdon, members may choose their routes according to their fitness and abilities.
They will be challenging enough or relaxing if you wish. The routes are confirmed in the morning on a day, taking the latest weather broadcast into consideration.
