ABWA Orange Park Charter Chapter August Dinner Meeting
ABWA Orange Park Charter Chapter August Dinner Meeting Karen Woulf will be talking about how to be an advocate in your community. Please do not miss this amazing opportunity to hear her speak! See below with information on her and I hope to see you there! Karen Woulf Provider Liaison Healthy Start of North Central Florida, Inc Karen began her career by pursuing a degree in Education but soon found herself called to the world of service through Nonprofit Organizations. This started for her over 20 years ago working with the University of Florida at the Nurturing Program which was a home visitation program for high risk families. She soon moved into advocating for these families and their children. Through the support of UF, Karen worked a twelve county area in North Central Florida to build local Task Forces to help families connect with services on local levels. Eventually, the funding dried up which led her to begin work in Public Health with local Health Departments. Karen managed the Chronic Disease and Tobacco Free program in Suwannee and Lafayette Counties for five years. She then became the PIO for the counties and had the opportunity to work closely with the schools on community projects. Unfortunately, the funding was pulled from the States so she then moved on to WellFlorida Council and began working with the Healthy Start program of North Central Florida. Karen has been with Healthy Start for over 7 years. She now covers the same twelve counties that she covered when working with UF so she feels she has now come full circle. Healthy Start has been in the state of Florida for many years and actually celebrating 25 years in 2018. The goals of Healthy Start are to reduce infant mortality and low birth weight babies. They believe educating mothers and their families is the best method to successful pregnancies and healthier families. Karen is a Provider Liaison with the program and enjoys being able to educate Medical Providers to further understand the program, the screening process and making them aware of the resources in their communities. She believes in doing what you love with work if at all possible if not being an advocate for a cause that you are passion it about. Giving back is one of the best qualities we have as citizens of a community. Karen has a significant other who makes her laugh daily, 3 children and 4 beautiful grandchildren with a new grandbaby on the way, needless to say, she is super excited! She loves to walk daily if possible, spend time with family, enjoys seeing her ABWA sisters monthly, and relaxing at the beach. Last but not least, Karen has 6 stray cats that she adores and they are slowly learning to adore her as well!
