Join us for our 2nd tech talk this year with Canonical's own VP of Ubuntu Engineering, Rick Spencer (http://www.canonical.com/about) (on senior Management team). He'll discuss how he has helped grow Ubuntu's 300 person remote engineering team.

Abstract:
Expanding an engineering team in most large U.S. tech centers {New York, DC, San Francisco, Austin, Seattle} these days is a challenge. Many leaders, who are looking to expand, are finding it most difficult to find talented, co-located resources.

Solution: enable and empower engineers and testers so they can work at home or remote at least a portion of their time or 100% of their time. Using proven people management practices, you will achieve better engineering results and a happier, more engaged team.

About Rick:
Rick leads the team responsible for Canonical’s numerous engineering contributions to Ubuntu. Before joining the company, he spent many years in software development and management roles at Microsoft in Seattle.

A passionate leader of teams in the creation of amazing software, Rick strives to create clarity of vision, passion for quality, and user-centered decision making to both small and large software development teams.
