Welcome! Thanks for your interest in the DC Amateur Classical Musicians’ Meetup Group. The ACM-DCCO Meetup is your home for relaxed, non-competitive performance – both private and public – of chamber music for fun and enjoyment. And if you are interested in performing in an orchestra, the ACM-DCCO is also your gateway to participating in the DC Concert Orchestra. Musicians only (no music appreciaters please) at the intermediate level and above are welcome to join.
Favor please. The organizer is INUNDATED with questions from applicants, and cannot respond to individual questions about the group. Most every question is answered by information provided on this website. If you haven't the time and inclination to read at least the rest of this About Us, and perhaps the related links, I can't help. An FAQ is under development.
Chamber Music While good music is the goal, the emphasis here is on fun and enjoyment! Many who were reticent to attend, or thought they might just "sit and listen" found themselves playing at their first meeting. Nerves and feeling intimidated can be left at the doorstep. We're a collegial, congenial, non-competitive group; criticism and attitude are not welcome; we appreciate everyone's best effort. We also host one or two public recitals per year for willing performers. PLEASE READ http://files.meetup.com/557533/Meetup%20About%20Us.pdf to understand how this group operates and whether it is right for you.
Orchestra Participation The ACM-DCCO is the “front door” to participating in the DC Concert Orchestra (DCCO), a highly skilled, established community orchestra in Washington, DC. Several of the DCCO’s rehearsals are open to all members of the Meetup group, regardless of audition or orchestra membership status. PLEASE READ http://files.meetup.com/557533/DCCO%20Members%27%20Handbook%20V1.1.pdf and visit www.DCConcertOrchestra.org to learn more about the orchestra.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION – MUST READ
Membership Dues are $12 per year and are payable immediately upon acceptance into the Meetup group. We do not honor the Meetup sponsored 14 day trial period. But we do have a separate refund policy. New members failing to pay promptly will be removed from the group without reminders.
Refund Policy Meetup and WePay are incorrect in stating that there is no refund policy for this group. I can’t fix that. Refunds are available during a new member’s first six months of membership if they find nothing of interest and participate in no events. Refunds are available upon request if made before leaving Meetup.
Clarinetists, Flutists, and Pianists We have a lot of you in the group and you are a lively group. You will need to be quick on the draw to find spots open for you at events, that is unless you host events. You can see more on hosting in the Chamber Music group About Us referenced above. Please bear this in mind before requesting membership.
Openings in the Orchestra While some of our rehearsals are open to all, all sections except Strings, (Contra)Bassoon, Harp and Percussion are full. We do accept audition candidates for the waitlist and stand-by.
