There were 4 of us out last night riding and we had a great time, despite working our butts off. Luckily the temperature cooled down and the humidity dropped so we didn't die of dehydration and heat exhaustion. They came from near and as far away as Orangeville, on a variety of bicycles and we managed to make it work with the differing levels of have the stronger ones on road bikes loop back when they got further ahead of the others. We started with a loop or 2 around the ring in High Park to warm up, then headed just East of the park around Indian Road and Sunnyside Ave to incorporate some gentle hills. After that we tackled some of the gentler hills in the park and slowly increased the challenge, ending with the roller-coaster at the top of Ellis Park. Amongst other tactics, we talked about applying constant smooth pressure on the full circuit of the pedal turn to utilize a number of muscles, thereby minimizing fatigue and maintaining energy. Everyone was extremely thankful and gushed about how much they learned...even the more advanced riders. Afterwards, we dipped across Bloor Street for a cool brew to "re-hydrate (cough-cough ;})", and feed our bodies the carbs it needed to sooth the lactic acid build-up. Hope you can join us next Thursday, August 19th evening for distance training!.
