1) What we know, what is happening, and what we are made of: Exploring big data on the cloud. Felipe Hoffa, Google
Short Summary: We will talk and demo the tools and methodologies – that you can use – to understand the world and what we are made of. Interactively leveraging tools like Google BigQuery we will discover knowledge on immense available datasets. Having all this data and power - how could we build a business from it?
Bio: In 2011 Felipe Hoffa moved from Chile to San Francisco to join Google as a Software Engineer. Since 2013 he's been a Developer Advocate on big data - to inspire developers around the world to leverage the Google Cloud Platform tools to analyze and understand their data in ways they could never before. You can find him in several YouTube videos, blog posts, and conferences around the world.
2) TV Marketing and big data: cat and dog or thick as thieves? Krzysztof Osiewalski & Cyril Papadacci, King
Short summary: Technical developments in the area of data warehousing have allowed companies to push their analysis a step further and, therefore, allowed data scientists to deliver more value to business areas. In that session, we will focus on the case of performance marketing at King and demonstrate how we use Hadoop capabilities to exploit user-level data efficiently. That approach results in obtaining a more holistic view in a return-on-investment analysis of TV advertisement.
Bio: Krzysztof & Cyril are senior data scientists in the Marketing Data Science team at King. Given their background in economics and econometrics, their main remit is the quantitative side of marketing and finance covering the whole portfolio of games at King.
3) Secrets of Spark's success - Deenar Toraskar, Think Reactive
Short summary: This talk will cover the design and implementation decisions that have been key to the success of Apache Spark over other competing cluster computing frameworks. It will be delving into the whitepaper behind Spark and cover the design of Spark RDDs, the abstraction enables the Spark execution engine to be extended to support a wide variety of use cases: Spark SQL, Spark Streaming, MLib and GraphX. RDDs allow Spark to outperform existing models by up to 100x in multi-pass analytics.
Bio: Deenar Toraskar is the founder of Think Reactive, which provides responsive, resilient, elastic and ready-to-go data analytics solutions built using Apache Spark. Previously Deenar worked at a Tier 1 Investment Bank. He led a team, developing risk analytics applications (with numerous passionate and satisfied users) on a Spark/Hadoop platform.
