Backcountry & XC skiing near Pinkham Notch

Spend Presidents weekend skiing near Pinkham Notch in New Hampshire. We plan to ski backcountry and/or Jackson XC area or Great Glenn, depending on snow conditions. Skiing at Wildcat downhill area is also option. We will stay in a rustic AMC cabin Fri - Sun nights and cook / eat group meals. Cost for weekend is $100, excluding resort passes.
Backcountry skiing can be difficult and hazardous, particularly this season. You will need experience and equipment to participate in backcountry (may ski nearby resort instead). AMC is offering introduction to backcountry skiing on Feb 9th, see for details.
The cabin description is found at (some of this info is obsolete)

I skied Bear Notch touring center yesterday (Feb 3) and conditions were surprisingly good. Their base withstood the rain event and some fresh snow made for nice surface. They did not set a track - too much ice.
