What we’re about
Thanks for being a part of our Meetup group, and AMC Boston 20s and 30s. For those of you who are new, this email is to give some basic information about how you can get more involved with us and get on even more trips (our other websites have more trip postings than you’ll find here on Meetup!)
AMC Boston 20's and 30's is a group of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), dedicated to encouraging people in their 20s and 30s to get involved in the AMC and enjoy the outdoors.
With many volunteer leaders and co-leaders, we offer a variety of activities and events (both online and in-person). You may find us leading day hikes, backpacking, social events, local walks, trail maintenance, conservation work, kayaking, mountain biking, bicycling, skiing, camping, ice skating, and other activities. We sponsor trips throughout the year, most of which involve exploring different regions of New England. Check out some photos of our activities here!
If you want to be kept up to date with even more of our events, be sure to check the official postings at activities.outdoors.org. We do cross post some events to meetup but you have to register via the link in the description (signing up on Meetup does not approve you for the trip).
There are other ways to stay engaged with us.
Outdoors Postings: activities.outdoors.org is the official site for all AMC trip postings (everything gets posted here first). This link filters the 20s and 30s committee trips.
Spontaneous Outings and Socials (SOS) Google Group: Our mailing list where you get notified events happening soon that still have open spaces. This "SOS list" is one of our primary contact channels. And feel free to check out past events there.
Our Instagram: Feel free to follow us.
Our Facebook group: join our private Facebook Group.
Discord Server: join the discussion on topics like hiking, mapping and a lot more.
Our Website: Find out more general info about who we are and what we do, including how to become a leader.

Leaders: Meredith Kraner, Chao XieSpring has arrived and it is time to get those hiking legs back into shape for the season! This is a hike with the 20's and 30's group within AMC dedicated to encouraging people in their 20's and 30's to enjoy the outdoors.
We will complete portions of the Skyline and red dot trails for a total of 6 miles with 1500 ft of elevation gain over roughly 5-6 hours at a moderate pace (1.5 to 2 mph). This includes summiting Tucker Hill, Buck Hill, and Great Blue Hill. Unfortunately Eliot Tower is currently closed for renovations. We will still catch views of the Boston skyline and surrounding area including a 360 degree view at the top of Buck Hill. Participants should expect some rough, rocky terrain.
- 20s and 30s spring hike to Mt. IsraelNeeds location
You have to register here https://regi.amcboston.org/event/4085
Leaders: Chao Xie, Ian BakerWelcome the 2024 spring/summer hiking season by joining Chao and Ian for a hike of Mt. Israel (2,636'). On the "52 With a View" list, Mt. Israel sits between the Lakes Region and the southern portion of the White Mountains and features a ledgy, open summit with a great view to the north. Outlooks along the route offer views of the lakes to the south. We will hike Mt. Israel via an out-and-back route covering 4.2 miles round trip with 1,700' of elevation gain. The hike begins with moderate grades and becomes somewhat steeper and rougher as it ascends, with one short rocky scramble near the summit. We will hike at a moderate pace. This hike is appropriate for intermediate hikers who have prior experience hiking other peaks in southern New Hampshire, the White Mountains, or other similar mountain ranges and maintain an active exercise regimen.
To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out. We will hold Sunday, May 5 as a backup date for this hike if weather conditions prevent us hiking on Saturday, May 4.
- Belknaps Moderate Hike with a Scientific Learning OpportunityNeeds location

Leaders: Chao Xie, Meredith KranerThe Belknap Range region of southern New Hampshire is a great location to experience the terrain and flora of the higher peaks and is a great work-up to peaks in the White Mountains. On this trip we plan to summit Gunstock and Rowe, with the option of adding on Belknap for a total of 5-7 miles with up to 2000ft of elevation gain at a moderate pace (1.5 - 2 mph). Each one offering distinct views and terrain!
On our trip we will learn from seismologist Meredith Kraner about a high-precision GPS monitoring station (funded by your tax dollars) we will pass along the ridge line that is used for a tracking a whole host of geophysical phenomenon. Did you know that this high precision GPS station is used by scientists to measure the tectonic movement of the earth in California? That and more to be discussed!
To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt-out.
