What we're about

We have recently become The Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM)! This is a professional group dedicated to educating the public in supply chain and operations management principles. (Pre-COVID) We meet monthly, typically in Fairfield on Rt. 46 (see each meetup for specific locations), network and have a speaker or panel discuss a current supply chain or operations management topic. We also meet virtually! All manufacturing and service professionals are welcome as well as students either studying or planning to study supply chain management.

ASCM GNJ Top Management Night & Holiday Meeting - Wednesday, December 15, 2021

Please join us Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 6:00 PM for our Holiday Professional Development Meeting.
Presenter: Michele Siekerka, President and CEO of NJBIA

TOPIC: Turning challenges into opportunities. How are NJ business leaders tackling the Human Capital crisis we are experiencing and what does the future of workforce and workspace look like.

The workforce crisis is real- people are not returning to work for many reasons; lack of reliable childcare, fear of COVID, still available stimulus monies and unemployment benefits, lack of desire to perform prior functions or return to the office, skill gaps and the "earlier than expected" 4th technological revolution.

Michele will set a "state of the case" and present us with a few questions for small group table discussions that will then be shared with the goal of driving action items that can turn challenges into opportunities.

Questions:

How is the human capital crisis affecting you in real time?

Are you surveying staff on their needs/concerns?

Does your business/organization culture - if you have one- help or hurt your current employment challenges? Are you pivoting your business model in any way to address workforce stated needs/concerns?

How is technology playing an increasing role in your ability to deliver products and services?

What resources do you need to enable and empower your COVID recovery in this area?

WILL A ROBOT TAKE MY JOB?

Online event

Will a Robot Take My Job?
Robots, Artificial Intelligence, Supply Chain and You
Bob Collins, CPIM-F, CIRM, CSCP, CPTD, CAE, is the owner of the Bob Collins Group, specializing in Supply Chain education.

Thursday, January 20, 2022 - 5:45 PM - 7:15 PM EST
www.gnj.ascm.org
You must register on our website - free event!

Agenda:
5:45pm - Virtual Networking
6:00pm - Chapter Announcements, introductions
6:10pm - Speaker
7:10pm - Q&A, closing remarks

Robots are moving materials in Amazon warehouses, delivering medicine and performing intricate surgery in hospitals, serving as paralegals and document review attorneys, and even vacuuming our floors. Artificial Intelligence programs are beating chess masters, Jeopardy! contestants, and Texas hold'em poker champions. We talk to chatbots on our phones, tablets and in our homes (e.g., Siri and Alexa), and they respond to our requests.

We’ll look at where these technologies are going and how our jobs might change in this environment of escalating automation. How will AI disrupt where and how work is done, and the decisions made in our supply chains? And will a robot take your job? You'll gain an understanding of what robots and AI can — and cannot — do. You'll learn which jobs might be at the most risk to automation, and what humans can do that a robot or machine can't. You'll leave with new insight into whether your job is safe, or whether it's time for you to start brushing up on new skills.
