    March is Women Composers Month at AmateurPianists! Please attend this free piano recital showcasing amateur pianists of all levels from our community -- show them your support! Or even come and play! Pieces by Women Composers are prioritized this month, however all music is accepted provided there is time. If you would like to perform, please submit the "Recital Performance Request" form here: (https://amateurpianists.org/play?d=March%202019&desc=Women%20Composers Performers, 18 years or older, are allocated a maximum of 10 minutes each. Please submit your request by the Wednesday before the recital so we can prepare the program. Pianists selected to perform will be asked to contribute $20.00 for the opportunity to perform publicly on a grand piano.   • SOLD OUT Annual Holiday Party - December 2, 2018!!

    This great Meetup event is now SOLD OUT and we've closed it to receiving additional attendees! For those who have bought their tickets... we'll we'll see you there! ------------------------------------ AmateurPianists will be celebrating the holidays in grand style, at the Walter Munk Residence in La Jolla. This is a gorgeous private home with stunning ocean view and expansive gardens, and a Steinway grand piano. We will have vocal entertainment, open mic for pianists, raffle and of course food and beverages! Thanks to the generosity of the Munks, this event will be available to us for $30 per person. This not-to-be-missed event will be a great way celebrate a wonderful year of music with AmateurPianists, so bring your friends. All ticketed attendees will receive an email with information on the venue address, parking and other party details. (Please note that if you clicked "Are you going" for this event on Meetup.com but did not also buy a ticket, you were not properly registered for the party.)

    Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Community Room

    (Note change in recital date from September to October.) For our October recital, our theme is duets. And, we also welcome solo requests. Please let us know if you would like to perform. For duets, of course we would love lots of two piano pieces, but you may also play a duet with another instrument or voice. For example, piano + violin, piano + flute, piano trio or piano quintet. If you would like to perform, please email [masked] with the names of your collaborators, the full name of the piece, the composer, and the duration. Performers, 18 years or older, are allocated a maximum of 10 minutes each. Please submit your request as soon as possible as the program could fill up quickly. Submittals after the Wednesday before the recital are not assured of a performance slot. Musicians are asked to contribute $10.00 each for ensemble performance.   • Benefit Concert featuring Alevtyna Dobina

    Alevtyna Dobina is one of the brightest young Ukrainian pianists of this generation. Born in Kiev to a family of musicians, she has thrilled audiences throughout the world, including US, Brazil, Russian, Italy, France, Portugal, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Croatia and Estonia with her profound and breathtaking interpretations. She is a winner of many international competitions and has collaborated with other famous musicians. She was awarded the exclusive title of Scholar of the President by the President of Ukraine. She recently completed her Masters degree from the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversitat in Austria with honors. Tickets are $50 each and include a wine and cheese reception after the concert when you can meet the artist and network. All proceeds will go towards the San Diego 2019 International Competition for Outstanding Amateurs.   • The Art of Piano Practice

    Peter Gach is a pianist of wide-ranging musical interests. His repertoire extends from the complete Well-Tempered Clavier of JS Bach, to contemporary works written especially for him. He is also known for his engaging and informative lecture-recitals. Peter's work at the piano, as well as his teaching, is based on the pedagogical traditions of the Warsaw Conservatory in Poland. He was a student there of Jan Ekier, editor of the urtext Complete Works of Chopin. It was from this approach, relatively unknown in the US, that he developed his teaching philosophy. Prior to his retirement in 2012, he was Artist in Residence in Piano at Palomar College, as well Chairperson of the Performing Arts Department. Peter will present "The Art of Piano Practice" based on over 40 years of teaching and performing to showcase practical and effective ways to make each session at the piano productive.
