Freethinker Toastmasters Demo

Toastmasters is the premier organization for communication and leadership development. Join us on Monday, June 10th from 6:30pm – 7:30pm in the 1st Floor Fribourgh Room at the Main Library to see what happens at a Toastmasters meeting!

How does it work?

A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their communication and leadership abilities in a no-pressure atmosphere. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations.

Why should I attend?

By observing our June 10th demo meeting, you can determine if Toastmasters will help you

  • Increase your self-confidence

  • Become a better speaker

  • Become a better leader

  • Communicate more effectively

The demo meeting will last approximately 30 minutes with a Q&A session to follow.

Afterwards, join us for Flying Saucer Pint Night, right next door! We meet in the basement (walk into the bar area, then look to your right for the stairs) where we'll continue the fun and friendly conversation. Most pints are only $3.

I had not planned on committing myself to participate in this new endeavor, but the presentations and discussions were very informative and inspiring and you can count me in! While I have no plans to speak publicly for any specific reason, I am looking forward to becoming more comfortable expressing myself on every level of interpersonal interaction. Heck, I can't even tell a really funny joke and get a laugh. I have no place to go but up.

I agree Dave anyone who does public speaking now or plans to in the future would benefit from this program. Many of the experienced toastmasters admitted they were introverts and the program had helped them.

I had a great time! Toastmasters is a great way to increase your interpersonal and speaking skills in a friendly and fun environment. If you missed this event, join us at our next one in two weeks!

Between Meetup & Facebook RSVPs, our audience has grown beyond the 30 capacity of the Main Library meeting room (currently at 32 including my volunteers) and will likely swell further. Here are our choices (suggest others if need be)...

    1. Flying Saucer private room downstairs (they expect $400 in purchases, but there is not a deposit...w/ beers plus food per person, shouldn't be an issue I think)
    2. Baptist Health Hospital - Gilbreath Conference Center
    3. St. Vincent Infirmary (University & Markham) - South Auditorium

I agree with Dave from past experience usually they don't all show (I too hope we are wrong). It can be standing room only. I hope it is. I will stand if it is!!!

And if we keep it at the library we'll already be there right next to the Saucer for Pint Night.

I'm married to the host so apparently I should attend.

I should add that the purpose is to charter a Toastmasters club managed by and for Freethinkers. I promise you won't be subjected to an invocation! :P
