What we're about

I am starting this group because I want to bring individuals interested in practicing ASL to come together to gain skills, share experiences, and build friendships. My infant is Hard-of-Hearing (HOH) due to conductive hearing loss and my family has been slowly learning ASL over the past six months to support his language development.

I am new to Deaf culture and ASL and I may say the wrong thing, write the wrong thing, and I will definitely sign the wrong thing, but I want to learn and I feel the best way is to connect with others who have similar experiences. I want to create an inclusive environment for anyone close to this issue, but I want to emphasize that I am a rookie in ASL and I just want to bring people together to learn and grow.

I intend to host two events a month for the next six months. I intend for both events to be informal in structure and focus on getting to know each other and practicing ASL. I am a hearing parent and know limited ASL but I will use all tools at my disposal for us to communicate and come together based on all participant's language capabilities.
