Hey people! My name is Lola, I'm a 34 year old Londoner of Nigerian descent and after 18 months of living in AD in 2018 I plan to take more responsibility of how my life plays out here. My hard truth is that i have only 2 people out here that I consider friends and they are a married couple with 2 children. I have made a lot of excuses up to now as to why that is; AD is so transient, making friends as an adult is too hard, I already have friends (be it 3400 miles away) etc etc but it's enough. Sure I enjoy my own company but I do still want to experience things with people and not just any people - friends! Hard truth number 2: having friends doesn't just happen. It requires effort. I now choose to make an effort and if my story sounds similar to yours (or it doesn't but you want in anyway), join me.
AWK|AD (Awkward in Abu Dhabi) is aimed at 30 - 45 year olds and we will do exciting ordinary things like (but not limited to) catch a movie, cycle over at Yas, go for meals/brunch, head to bars, check out AD events and have games nights. Use the group in a way that best suits you - maybe you want to build relationships, maybe you want out of the house one day/evening/weekend and we'll be doing something that takes your fancy, or just maybe (when we get there) i've planned a holiday/staycation and you want to come.
This is not about dating and I hope to make this as un-intimidating as possible. Let's just come together, have a laugh and make our time in AD one to remember.
