What we're about

If you are a beginner learning Chinese, come to my FREE weekly meetup with structured lessons to teach you how to speak Chinese Mandarin. Each week, our rotating 1 hour lesson will cover a basic topic and will be accompanied by a downloadable PowerPoint for you to follow along and practice at home. As a Chinese American professional (an attorney and former Marine), with a mother who is native Chinese and a retired Chinese teacher in American public schools, we have created and structured these lessons to target working adults who want to quickly and efficiently learn basic useful Chinese to have simple conversation in Chinese. Below is the consecutive rotating lesson plan with harder ones to follow in the future. Please read everything below.

Lesson 1 - Greetings - Sunday March 17, 2019.

No experience is needed and the lessons start assuming participants have no knowledge of Chinese whatsoever. Lessons do not exactly compound on one another (meaning you can come to lesson 3 without going to lesson 1 and will be fine), but it will at least help to download and look over prior missed lessons. The next lesson will have a short recap of the previous lesson. Lessons also include culture notes, Chinese activities, and more to teach you all about the Chinese culture. PowerPoint slides are available for download via Google Drive (links provided under each scheduled date above). You do not need to bring anything, however I suggest bringing at least your smart phone with the PowerPoint downloaded to follow along and pen and paper to take notes. Lessons start promptly at the stated time (PLEASE BE ON TIME, so arrive early to order food if you want to eat or drink).

Again, this is all FREE. However, given we are utilizing Teaism's hospitality, please help the establishment by purchasing dinner. But again, no donation or purchase is required to attend this meetup.

Overall, our goal is to spread the rich language and culture of China. I have attended many Chinese lessons that have been expensive, unstructured, did not meet expectations, and unorganized. Therefore, I created this Meetup to fill that missing group that was there to truly teach beginners wanting to learn Chinese in a fun and fulfilling manner. Note that I am not fluent, but proficient and able to get by if I lived in China. Luckily my mother will be on call or present should anything be out of my expertise!

Again, above are the coming lessons and proposed dates those lessons will be taught. They rotate through, so I basically teach the same "Lesson 1" after the last listed lesson. Depending on interest and feedback, check this group page often for changes and additions. Most likely, I will create and teach the next level up (elementary) starting in April the same evening I teach the Beginner lesson, but later in the evening. I will probably charge $5 per lesson for these more advanced courses.

If you'd like to donate to help out (recommended $5 more a month) you can donate at the event or transfer via PayPal to li.zheng.andrewy@gmail.com.
