Hello and welcome to AZ Heeps (Heeps = people living with HSV/HPV). This is a newer Meetup for people who live in Arizona who are living with HSV 1, HSV 2 and/ or HPV. This is a Herpes/HSV support group that hosts social events. The goal is for people with "H" to not feel alone, to get accurate facts (that they may not be getting from their medical professionals), and to get out socially.
DON'T LET OUR MEMBER NUMBERS HERE FOOL YOU! The meetup group is a gateway to a larger, fun, and friendly group of men and women (but you won't find out more about that until you join us and we meet you! ;). We are here to help people deal with the everyday issues of having Herpes. There are lots of friendly people in the same situation that truly understand what you are going through. This group is about making friends. Finding emotional support when you are down. You can have fun, laugh again and enjoy life.
WARNING: This group is for caring, supportive, community-minded members; if you are involved in criminal activity, drugs, gang activity, only looking for "hookups", or are just an unsavory character in general-this group is not for you. We reserve the right to deny or remove members if they are deemed inappropriate for this group. Dating does happen & perfectly okay, however rude, inappropriate, stalking, or creepy behavior is not tolerated.
*** NOTE BEFORE JOINING *************************************************************This a private group set to Meetup's most restrictive "partial visibility" setting. That means people can find our group, see who the organizers are, and our meeetup dates and title (which is why our titles are rather vague). They CANNOT see the locations of the events. Who is in this group (besides the organizers) is only available to group members and is NOT public.
YOUR PRIVACY ON MEETUP: If you would like to join this Meetup Group, but don't want AZ Heeps to show up in the list of all Meetup Groups that you belong to, you must go into your Meetup Profile and change your settings to "Hide Groups". (If you created a brand new profile, this setting can only be accessed after you have joined a group.) Here's how: To hide the list of your Meetup Groups on your profile, head to any one of your Meetup Groups (it doesn't matter which group) and click on “My profile”. In that right column toward the middle, you'll see your Meetup Groups listed. Click on "Hide my Meetup Groups from others."
Joining Meetup with your Facebook Login could also reveal your affiliation with our group. Unless you have an H-only Facebook profile (a unique FB profile that you use exclusively for H groups on Facebook), we suggest that you do NOT use Facebook to sign up for this or other H Groups on Meetup.
Many people also prefer to show just their first name and not their last name. Other people prefer to use an alias. To make changes to your "name" that other members see, go to your "Account" settings where you can delete your last name or create an alias. *****************************************************************************************
We will be hosting monthly support meetings and also newbie luncheons/dinners/happy hours so those who are newly diagnosed know they're not alone and normal people live and love with this virus every day!
This is also a support group that also hosts social events (meetups). Because of the unnecessary stigma about this group, some people feel the need to hide. We have all kinds of events including happy hours, dinners, luncheons, hiking trips, biking trips, shooting trips, miniature golf, Dave and Busters, Sedona Trips, Houseboat trips, game nights, movie nights, etc. Basically, we're going to get out there and do fun things and live!
Anyone in the group can host an event, just ask an organizer to update your group status as an event organizer. There are some event guidelines: Please let everyone know if the event is H only, H and informed guests only, or open to all (meaning no talk about how we all know each other).
If you have HPV only, you are welcome to join this group, we are primarily a Herpes group but many here have both viruses. HPV, is NOT ALWAYS a lifetime virus so understand this if you become involved with someone with Herpes. Herpes IS a lifetime virus. HPV has many different strains so being with someone that has HPV may make you prone to another form of the HPV virus. Know the facts and be safe.
Herpes/HPV won't stop us from living a full life. Being social is the first step to taking back your power, finding great love and friendships, and living happily.
We want everyone to feel like they can ask for help no matter if the situation is in your control or completely out of control. You will make great friends in here, and hopefully meet them in person too!. If you would like to be added to the corresponding FB group, please just contact an Organizer. All group organizers are available to help you with any issues- we are simply an inbox away! If you need help please message us.
We do not personally vet the members of this group. We urge you to take the normal safety precautions you would when meeting anyone you do not know.
This is a support group. We want everyone to feel like they can ask for help no matter if the situation is in your control or completely out of control. Keep in mind that people may disagree with you. You may need some tough love. But if you come to this group asking for advice, you will get advice from people who care enough to read and consider your situation and take the time to comment. Many of them will keep you in their thoughts, remember your name, face, circumstances and will follow up later to see how you are doing. You will make great friends in here, and hopefully meet them in person too!.
Anyone found spamming members with Herpes dating websites, "cures", treatments, harassing or stalking etc. will be removed and banned from the group. Members, PLEASE let organizers know if you receive messages from spammers, cure hawkers, or requests to join H dating groups.
Meetup is only one source of support and social activity. If after we meet you at a meetup/event/meeting, you may also like to be introduced to the hundreds of FB groups (including several that are local) that are H-related. Message an organizer if you'd like to be added to any of these social and support groups. They are private and secret.
All group Organizers are available to help you with any issues. If you need help please message us.
New members must be approved by the Organizer
