Charles's Birthday Weekend (Tubing, Hiking, Swimming, Camping...MORE)

  • May 17, 2014 · 7:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Event Activities:

1.  Swim in the Salt River (We'll be less than 1 mile from there)

2.  Hike in the Bulldog Recreation Area

3.  Tube on the Salt River

4.  Games that you bring to play in the evening.  (A meetup is leaving at 9AM on Sunday...we should join)

5.  Food that we will have fun preparing.  I'll get word on the fire restriction if there is one.

I've decided. I'll be organizing a camping event near/along the salt river. There will be plenty of fitness available with a hike, swimming, tubing (not quite fitness unless you do what I do, which is paddle around up and down the river--great upper body workout...though beware you can chafe your biceps), and maybe even some yoga.
I talked with the Mesa Ranger Station, and each driver will need his/her own pass. I can get one, but others will have to get theirs. GUESS WHAT, it seems to be FREE!!!! It takes 48 hour notice for the pass to be issued, so be ready and prepped to get it. I'll coordinate drivers.

The hike will be into the Tonto National Forest for at least 7 miles, the swimming can be at your own pace/time, and I've got some yoga poses on cards...that's what I got :).

This is the best solution to camp near the salt river (we have to be at least 3/4 mile away from the river itself). BUT, this means we can walk to it. We can bring our own tubes and leave one car at the end to ferry back drivers for people. We'll be able to watch the stars, enjoy the pleasant weather, and totally be off the beaten path. Please read the restrictions as set forth in the document link I provided. Please post comments and I'll answer them. I'll be out there on Friday to set the spot where I want can come on Friday or Saturday or Sunday. Location is right near Salt River Tubing...hence it is the spot indicated.

The permit is a free 6-month permit (who does that, AZ does *smile*). Here is the link to fill out...I think one can be issued on the day thereof by going to the ranger station on a weekday.
